    580EXII problems!

I was shooting some portraits this weekend, using two 580EXII's and YIKES did I have problems!!

I was using (2) pocket wizzard Plus II's and one miniTT1 to trigger them.

I am also uising Canon's optional battery pack for only one of my speedlites, the one I use as my key light.

I set it up on manual, zoomed to 24mm, and had it at 1/2 power.

The other speedlite I used as a fill and set it at 1/8 power, so I figured no need for a battery pack.

That darn speedlite kept going to sleep on me, whenever it was idle for 2 minutes or so.

    Very annoying!

I was using freshly charged NiMH batteries for everything!

Does anyone have a clue why that speedlite kept going to sleep?

Check your instruction manual, you should find in the menu items the menu that will let you switch the "sleep mode" OFF........ Will be in there somewhere, otherwise, do a qwik "search" on the FLICKR Strobist site discussion archive. The problem has been asked & solved MANY times there. I have a 430EX II and the book shows you how to turn off the sleeper mode. Would be a bit different for yours though, I imagine.

I should have just included this & saved you the reading......... it's in the manual though........ " set custom function #14 to 1, and your problems shall be solved "

On the 580EXII, it's Custom Function 01 - Auto Power Off. Set to 1 - Disabled.

If your camera body provides Flash Control menus, use that, as it gives full information on what you are setting, unlike the flash's display.
